Heather is next up for our Meet a Food Banker series; check out the Q&A below to learn more about her role as Recycling Processor!

What do you do at the food bank?

I am currently the Recycling Processor, but I just transitioned to that from being the Custodian. The types of things involved in what I do right now are collecting recycling from across the warehouse and office, gathering up cardboard and cleaning things like the bathrooms, counters, floors and more.

How did you end up in this role?

Before working here I worked at Meals on Wheels as a dish washer. I needed a change after working there for almost 5 years, and I heard about this job from my dad who is a truck driver here. Before Meals on Wheels, I worked at a hospital as a dish washer. I’ve worked here now for just over a year and the people are nice and it’s a blessing to work here!

What’s your favorite part about your job?

Being able to encourage people in this world and love on them through helping feed them.

Any standout memories?

One memory that really touched me was when a couple that was struggling and needed food came to the food bank and I was able to help them out. I gave her a hug and she had tears in her eyes and so did I. I understood what they were going through, so it was great to be able to help!

What motivates you to fight hunger?

What motivates me is my faith, which includes serving God and serving his people.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I play the guitar as a volunteer at my church. I also own a 17-year-old horse so I take care of him and ride for fun. It’s fun to just spend time with him and hang out! Outside of that, I like to hang out with my family and friends.
