We are committed to a nondiscriminatory approach and provide equal opportunity for employment and advancement in all of our departments, programs, and worksites. We respect and value diverse life experiences and heritages, and ensure that all voices are valued and heard.

Feeding America West Michigan believes that diversity, inclusion, and equity are connected to our mission and critical to ensure the well-being of our board, staff and the communities we serve. We will lead with respect and open-mindedness. We expect all employees to embrace this notion, and to express it in workplace interactions and through every day work practices.

June 16, 2020 statement

The recent outcry in response to persistent racial injustices nationally and within our own communities has shown us there is more work to be done to eradicate racism – in America, in Michigan and in our own organization.

We want to live in a country where “justice for all” is a reality. To make this happen, we must listen to those experiencing injustice, choose to create lasting change and embrace a culture of true inclusion. This means valuing diversity and standing against racism and inequality at all levels – every single day.

At Feeding America West Michigan, we will commit to:

  • oppose racism – realized or unrealized – and refuse to tolerate it in any form
  • stand with those marginalized by racism as they demand justice
  • look at our practices to identify areas we can improve
  • learn from criticism and mistakes, and continue to educate ourselves
  • escalate our work to advance diversity, inclusion, equity and access throughout our organization

We pledge to change what needs to change, and to choose justice every day.

We know that in order to end hunger in our communities, we all must work together. We value the diverse voices we serve and work alongside as we live out our mission.

Expect a progress update in the coming months.
