Next up for our Meet a Food Banker series is Scott! Check out the Q&A below to learn more about him.

What do you do at the food bank?

I am a Truck Driver and have been working here for 8 years. I do Mobile Food Pantries in the Upper Peninsula and down here in West Michigan. I pick up food, deliver it, and do whatever it takes to get the job done. Each day I make deliveries and get the truck ready for the U.P. trips. When I go to the U.P. its usually 3-4 day trip.

How did you end up in this role?

I’ve been a truck driver all my life; it’s my 50th year. I retired from my previous job and saw one of Feeding America West Michigan’s trucks on the road, so I called this place up to see if they had any truck driver jobs available. I went to a Mobile Food Pantry with one of the drivers at the time and knew I wanted to do this. Everybody is happy to see you in this role, it’s been a lot of fun.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

Doing the Mobile Food Pantries! I especially like getting to drive to the U.P. every week. If I have any extra time while I’m up there I can go on walks which is really fun.

Any standout memories?

Having fun with all of the people I meet while doing the Mobile Pantries. There are regular places I get to go to, so I have a lot of fun being with the people I see on a regular basis.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like hunting, fly fishing and all things outdoors!
