September is Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, a time when people all across the country will be taking a stand against hunger. This September, Feeding America West Michigan is offering a whole slew of ways for you to get involved and make a concrete difference in the lives of the 1 in 8 neighbors struggling with hunger.

So stand up. Get involved. Take action. Here’s how:

Volunteer

Get those work boots on and come volunteer with us! We’ll be picking fruits and vegetables at local farms throughout the month, and we’ll also need your help packing food in the warehouse. If you’ve never volunteered before, this is a great time to start. See current volunteer opportunities.

And while you’re volunteering, be sure to snap a couple photos and share them using the hashtag #Fox17Feeds. Your photo just might be featured on Fox 17 during their Hunger Action Month coverage!

Donate

It doesn’t take a lot of money to have a big impact, especially during Hunger Action Month. That’s because Weingartz has offered to double gifts to Feeding America West Michigan from Sept. 12 to Oct. 11. That means every dollar will send eight meals to your neighbors in need! Give today.

Advocate

You have a voice. Use it! Contact your senators and representatives and tell them to support programs that combat food insecurity in our state.

Hops Against Hunger

Raise a glass for hunger relief at a local brewery or restaurant. This year, 40 Michigan breweries and restaurants are taking part, including HopCat, New Holland Brewing Co., Greenbush Brewing Co., Arcadia Ales Kalamazoo, Lansing Brewing Co., Terra GR, Grand Rapids Brewing Company, Beards Brewery, and Ore Dock Brewing Co.
