KENTWOOD — Ending hunger in our community is a monumental task and Feeding America West Michigan is grateful to Weingartz for commemorating Hunger Action Month with their annual Mow Down Hunger challenge.
The family-owned outdoor power equipment retailer is again matching donations to the food bank for the first $15,000 in gifts from Sept. 16 through October 14.
“We are grateful for all the ways Weingartz shows up to support neighbors across Michigan through their Mow Down Hunger initiative. Because of them, donors’ gifts can go twice as far,” said Pattijean McCahill, Feeding America West Michigan President and CEO. “That means every dollar given will provide up to eight meals for neighbors who may not know where their next meal will come from. In a world where 1 in 7 neighbors in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula is at risk of hunger, the Weingartz Foundation is making a difference through generosity and commitment to our community.”
As a fourth-generation Michigan business, Weingartz has built its reputation by focusing on long-term relationships with customers, employees, and the communities they serve. With locations in six communities, the Utica-based outdoor power equipment company supports three food banks in Michigan and several other nonprofits in the communities where its stores are located. The West Michigan Weingartz store is in Cedar Springs.
Hunger Action Month was developed by the national Feeding America organization, of which Feeding America West Michigan is a member. Food banks nationwide use the month to raise awareness of hunger and the many ways people can help. The Feeding America network is comprised of 198 food banks that serve every county in the United States.
As a member of the national Feeding America food bank network, Feeding America West Michigan supports hunger-relief efforts in 40 counties in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. In 2025, the food bank partnered with more than 800 community organizations to distribute 28.7 million meals worth of food to more than one million households through fixed-site pantries, mobile food pantries, summer meal programs, and more.
