Despite pandemic, Mitten Brewing Co.’s Foundation raised $20,000 for school Mobile Food Pantries through golf outing

Last month, The Fourth Annual Mitten Foundation Golf Outing raised funds for 27 Feeding America West Michigan Mobile Pantries that will be hosted by schools in Fennville and on Grand Rapids’ Westside in the next year.

“With the current state of the world, I was worried we wouldn’t have the same kind of sponsorship and investment we had the last couple years,” Dana, the foundation’s president, said. “But we got really lucky and managed to raise the $20,000 goal.”

The Mitten Foundation doesn’t just raise funds for Mobile Pantries; they also send volunteers to the distributions – who usually bring plenty of pizzas to share with attendees. Virus-related restrictions have made sharing pizzas more difficult, but Dana recently helped at a Mitten-supported Mobile Pantry and was moved to see 80 families go through the line.

“It just reiterates how important it is to be steadfast to raise money,” she said. “There were 80 families there – if not for that truck, what would they do?”

Mitten volunteers include the brewery owners and employees, foundation staff and board members.

“The thing that’s most surprising about it is how many people you can help for such a small amount,” Dana said. And, “for such a small amount of effort on your part.”

Support from organizations like the Mitten Foundation, gives the food bank hope that we will one day end hunger for good. Their support was made possible at the golf event thanks to sponsors including Rockford Construction, Mercantile Bank of Michigan, Alliance Beverage Distributing, AFC Inc., Volta Power Systems, Keystone, Conveyor Concepts of Michigan LLC,  Mike and Rachel Mraz, Savory Foods, GLP Investment Services LLC, Service Express, Andrus Family Trust,  Devries Jewelers, Rehmann, C.J.
