As a farmer, 4H member, or FFA member raising livestock, you’re producing food that nourishes people in our local communities and across the country. Grand Champion Giving offers an easy way to provide that high-quality food source to your neighbors struggling with hunger.
Through the Grand Champion Giving program, businesses, farmers, and individuals can donate livestock they’ve purchased from a livestock auction at any partnered fair to Feeding America West Michigan at no additional cost to them (beyond the actual purchase of the animal), while receiving tax benefits. Feeding America West Michigan covers the cost of transportation, slaughter, and processing. 4H members receive 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the animal, and hungry neighbors receive meat that was raised with care right here in Michigan. All of the meat from the donated animals goes back to folks in the county it came from.

Where does the meat go?
Feeding America West Michigan is partnered with more than 900 agencies across West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. The meat from donated livestock will be distributed to partner agencies in the county it came from who will provide to neighbors who struggle with hunger.
How can I donate?
There are a couple of ways you can donate to the Grand Champion Giving program:
• Donate at Auction. Attend a livestock auction listed above, bid on the animal(s) of your choice, and check the purchase for donation upon checkout at the fair! All you do is pay for your purchase of the animal, and we handle the rest. The 4H members still receive 100% of the proceeds, and we cover the cost of transportation, slaughter, and processing.
• Donate Livestock. Donate livestock straight from your farm. Farmers can donate animals the same way. We still cover all of the costs of slaughter and processing, and will arrange to have the animal picked up right at your farm. Plus, your donation is tax-deductible.
• Give Cash. Donate funds to help sustain the program at FeedWM.org/Donate, and be sure to add “Grand Champion Giving” into the special instructions box!
Can I be sure food safety practices are taking place?
Absolutely. All of the livestock donated will be butchered and processed only at USDA-certified slaughterhouses and processors. Feeding America West Michigan itself is subject to rigorous audits by the USDA, AIB, and inspectors from the national Feeding America office.
