COMSTOCK PARK, Mich., June 29, 2020 — The Cadillac and Kellogg for Youth Committee (part of the Cadillac Area Community Foundation) has awarded Feeding America West Michigan with a $1,000 grant. This funding will help sponsor three Mobile Food Pantries in the Cadillac area, ensuring families facing hunger can access the fresh produce and other food they need to thrive.
In Wexford County, 1 in 7 neighbors faces hunger in a typical year. The pandemic has exacerbated the issue, so that ratio is projected to jump to 1 in 5 this year. Children are even more at risk with 2,110 projected to face hunger in 2020 – up from 1,320.
Each Mobile Food Pantry will provide 10,000 pounds of food – equating to around 8,300 meals – for around 200 neighbors. These meals will be partially sponsored by the Cadillac and Kellogg for Youth Committee, and youth involved in choosing the food bank as a grant recipient will also volunteer at the distributions.
