Feeding America West Michigan invites neighbors to holiday food distribution at food bank

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich., Nov. 6, 2019 —
Feeding America West Michigan invites neighbors in need to attend a holiday Mobile Food Pantry at their Comstock Park warehouse, located at 864 W River Center Dr. NE, on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. All participants must register online at feedwm.org/register. Only one registration per household is allowed.

At the Mobile Pantry, food bank staff will distribute a variety of fresh produce and other food items to families facing hunger. The food provided won’t include all of the items needed for a Thanksgiving dinner, but is intended to supplement the needs of families struggling during the holiday weekend.

The first 400 households registered for the distribution are guaranteed to receive food. The food bank staff asks that neighbors arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

Mobile Pantries are usually hosted by Feeding America West Michigan’s partner agencies throughout West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. This unique holiday food distribution held at the food bank’s main warehouse is more than just an opportunity for neighbors facing hunger to receive an extra boost during the holidays; it’s a chance for the food bank staff and community to interact, and for neighbors who receive this form of assistance to see where their food comes from.

Food banks reclaim and distribute safe, surplus food that may otherwise go to waste. During the holiday season, food waste is exacerbated. This food distribution is one of the ways Feeding America West Michigan aims to reduce holiday food waste.

More details can be found on the registration page.
