Local Foundation Supports Mobile Pantries in Southwest Michigan

The Pokagon Fund, a nonprofit foundation supported by The Four Winds Casino Resort in New Buffalo, MI, has been a generous supporter of Feeding America West Michigan for several years. The foundation exists to serve its community and to enhance the lives of Southwest Michigan residents by funding local nonprofit initiatives in the program areas of education, poverty reduction, and community vitality. The Pokagon Fund, founded in 2007, has awarded more than $22 million since its inception.

The Pokagon Fund’s gift to Feeding America West Michigan has been crucial to the success of our mobile pantry program in Southwest Michigan. The $8,500 grant, which began in March and will run through the end of 2017, funded mobile pantries in New Buffalo, Three Oaks, and Chikaming Townships. The grant has funded two mobiles per month in the Southwest Michigan service area, and has set a goal to contribute 60,000 pounds of food to community members in that region before the end of the grant period in December.

Feeding America West Michigan would not exist if not for the generosity of our foundation partners. It is thanks to organizations such as the Pokagon Fund that we are enabled to continue growing our programs, extending our reach, and feeding more hungry people year after year. We are humbled to consider the Pokagon Fund a partner in fulfilling our mission.
