Home-Cooked and Hand-Delivered: Senior Meals on Wheels

For the elderly and home-bound, receiving a healthy meal in their own home is about more than just nutrition. It’s a chance for social interaction and it allows them to retain a sense of dignity and independence. Senior Meals Program, Inc. receives much of its food from Feeding America West Michigan.

The following is a letter written by the daughter of a client this summer.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing on behalf of my mother, Ruth, who has been receiving Senior Meals for several years. Senior Meals is the reason mom has been able to maintain her health due to their high nutritional quality. Mom particularly enjoys the vegetables, which she says are never over-cooked.

Senior Meals is making it possible for mom to remain in her home of 66 years. Her deepest wish is to remain at home, and she could not do it at age 92 without Senior Meals.

The volunteers who deliver the meals are welcome visitors. I believe that Senior Meals is the reason mom is able to enjoy a level of health and engagement; it is vital to her continued independence.

Leslie
