Comstock Park, Michigan — Sept. 14, 2015 — September is Hunger Action Month. For three Michigan food banks, that means donations will go twice as far, thanks to Weingartz’s Mow Down Hunger campaign. During the campaign, which runs from Sept. 14 through Oct. 6, the Michigan-based, family-owned outdoor power equipment company will match donations to three food banks, including Feeding America West Michigan.
The goal: to provide 1 million meals to food-insecure children throughout our state.
“As we kick off the sixth year of the Mow Down Hunger campaign, I am excited for the outpouring of support that we receive from our customers, employees and communities,” said President Dan Weingartz. “We are blessed and honored to be the matching sponsor for this program and look forward to another successful campaign and providing another one million meals.”
Mow Down Hunger supports food banks serving communities where Weingartz’s stores are located. Food Gatherers in Ann Arbor and Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit will also benefit from the campaign.
“Right now, hunger threatens 1 in 5 kids in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula,” said Feeding America West Michigan CEO Ken Estelle. “Weingartz’s commitment to addressing this critical issue is truly impressive. We’re grateful that they’ve chosen to support our mission in such a big way.”
With every dollar they receive, Feeding America West Michigan can distribute 4 meals. The Food Bank distributed record numbers of meals in 2013 and 2014, sending out 20 and 21 million meals respectively, and 2015 is on track to be their biggest year yet to date. Each year, they serve an estimated 492,100 people.
All Weingartz locations are accepting donations of money and nonperishable food through Oct. 6. Donations can also be made online at feedwm.org. To view store hours and locations, visit Weingartz.com.
