… By the Fourth of July

Knee-high depends on your perspective, right?

It’s almost Fourth of July, and while our corn may not have reached that proverbial height yet, it’s coming along nicely. The seedlings look healthy, the weeds are few and far between, and this summer’s mix of sun and rain has been kind.

In two short months, we’ll be harvesting this corn. That’s where you come in.

If you’re interested in helping us hand-pick these three and a half acres, we could use your help. Bring your friends, bring your kids. It’ll be a bonding experience, and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you helped put fresh, locally grown vegetables on someone’s plate.

Volunteer for the harvest.

These Red-Winged Blackbirds weren’t too pleased to have us stomping around their nesting grounds. Don’t worry, though, no animals were harmed in the making of this post — and neither were any Food Bank staff members.
